Start your getaway in Grand Falls before making your way toward Rivière-Verte and Edmundston. This first day combines walks, hiking and scenic valley views, all surrounded by fall colours.

Malabeam Tourist Information Centre and Grand Falls Gorge

Start the day with a walk along the spectacular Grand Falls Gorge. The approximately 1.6 km scenic trail features several lookouts over the gorge and river. To extend your visit, you can also head down the 401 steps for a closer view of the gorge. It is the perfect first stop to take in the fall colours lining the Saint John River Valley.

2 | Afternoon
Hike at Mont Pointu
Continue toward Rivière-Verte for a hike at Mont Pointu. The trail climbs above Rivière-Verte and offers beautiful views of the valley and surrounding forests. In the fall, the landscape is especially impressive as the hills turn shades of red, orange and gold.

3 | Late afternoon
Drive to Edmundston
Continue toward Edmundston while taking in the scenery of the Madawaska Valley. If you would like to add one last short walk to the day, several access points to the Méruimticook Trail can be found in the Edmundston area and throughout the valley.
End the day in downtown Edmundston for dinner and an overnight stay.
Head toward Haut-Madawaska for a second day focused on Noroît’s wide-open landscapes. Between small communities, scenic roads and colourful forests, the route leads to Lake Glazier, one of Haut-Madawaska’s natural gems.

Scenic drive through Haut-Madawaska
Leave Edmundston and head toward Haut-Madawaska. Follow the valley through the communities of Saint-Hilaire, Baker-Brook, Clair and Saint-François-de-Madawaska. Take your time along the way and enjoy the region’s changing scenery, from the river and rolling hills to colourful forests.
2 | Early afternoon
Saint-François-de-Madawaska
Stop in the Saint-François area before continuing toward Lake Glazier. Surrounded by forests, lakes and the Saint John River, the area offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and the scenery of Haut-Madawaska.Take a short break here before continuing toward the more remote Lake Glazier area.
3 | Afternoon
Lake Glazier Lookout
Continue your adventure toward Lake Glazier, located along the New Brunswick–United States border. The lake is surrounded by a vast forested landscape that becomes especially striking in the fall.
Make your way to the lookout for elevated views over the lake and surrounding forest. With fall colours covering the hills around the water, this viewpoint is the scenic highlight of the second day.
Allow a good portion of the afternoon for the round trip and time to explore the area.
4 | Late afternoon
Return through Haut-Madawaska
Head back toward Saint-François and enjoy one last look at the valley scenery before wrapping up your getaway. Depending on your return time, stop for dinner in one of the Haut-Madawaska communities or in Edmundston.
